Rolling Stones New Album ‘Foreign Tongues’ Features The Cure’s Robert Smith – Mick Jagger Shares Hilarious Story
The Rolling Stones have announced their new studio album ‘Foreign Tongues’, set for release on 10 July 2026 via Sony Music — and Mick Jagger has shared the brilliant story of how The Cure’s Robert Smith ended up on it.
Speaking at the album launch in Brooklyn, Mick recalled walking into Metropolis Studios in London to record vocals and seeing a mysterious figure in a long gown covered in lipstick.
“I’d never met him before and I said, ‘You’re Robert Smith of The Cure’. And he said ‘yeah, we’ve never met.’ And then I said ‘well, while you’re here then you better do something!’ That’s how collaborations work sometimes – ‘go out and sing the backing vocal!’”
The star-studded album, produced by Andrew Watt (who also helmed Hackney Diamonds), also features contributions from Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), and a posthumous appearance from Charlie Watts.
