The Dead Daisies: Rock’s Resilient Road Warriors Light It Up Again

In the gritty world of hard rock, The Dead Daisies stand tall as a band that embodies the raw spirit of the genre. With their seventh studio album, Light ’Em Up (2024), and an upcoming blues covers record, Lookin’ For Trouble (set for release May 2025), this Aussie-American supergroup delivers riff-heavy anthems that echo the glory days of classic rock. Fronted by the soulful John Corabi, who rejoined in 2023 after a hiatus, The Dead Daisies are a testament to resilience and rock ’n’ roll passion.

Formed in 2012 by rhythm guitarist David Lowy, The Dead Daisies were built on a foundation of unpretentious, high-octane rock. Lowy, a businessman with a creative fire, assembled a rotating cast of heavy-hitters, including former members of Whitesnake, Mötley Crüe, and Thin Lizzy. Their early albums, like Revolución (2015) and Make Some Noise (2016), blended stadium-sized hooks with barroom swagger, earning them a loyal following. Relentless touring with legends like Aerosmith and KISS solidified their reputation as a live juggernaut, with sweat-soaked performances at festivals like Download Festival and Wacken Open Air.

John Corabi, the Philadelphia-born vocalist known for his ‘90s stint with Mötley Crüe, has been a driving force since joining in 2015. After stepping away in 2019, his return feels like a homecoming. “It’s like I never left,” he told Classic Rock magazine. At 65, Corabi’s voice remains a powerhouse, preserved by avoiding the excesses of rock’s darker side. “I’ve never been a drug guy,” he says, relying on sleep and a pre-show booze ban to keep his vocals razor-sharp. On Lookin’ For Trouble, the band tackles blues standards by icons like BB King and Robert Johnson, with Corabi’s soulful delivery reimagining tracks like The Thrill Is Gone in a slower, airier style.

The Dead Daisies’ lineup changes are legendary, with a Wikipedia page dedicated to tracking them. Corabi downplays the flux: “Ninety percent are friends filling in for scheduling or health reasons.” The core—Lowy, Corabi, and a tight crew—remains rock-solid. Lowy, often misjudged as a “billionaire with a hobby,” is the band’s heartbeat, a humble workhorse in the studio. Their discography, from Burn It Down (2018) to Holy Ground (2021) with Glenn Hughes, consistently charts in rock circles, blending raw energy with polished production.

Corabi’s 2022 autobiography, Horseshoes And Hand Grenades, offers a raw look at his journey, revealing a man with no regrets but plenty of whisky-worthy tales. As Lookin’ For Trouble approaches, The Dead Daisies remain a beacon of rock’s enduring spirit—unpolished, unapologetic, and ready to light up the stage.
