What is the new Deep Purple Splat single?

“Splat!” is the title track and grand finale of the band’s current studio album, and it brings the central idea of the record full circle. At the heart of SPLAT! is a concept dreamed up by singer Ian Gillan: rather than treating the end as destruction, the album imagines it as transformation, a metamorphosis beyond physical existence. It is a big idea for a hard rock record, and the closing track is where it all lands.

The single follows “Arrogant Boy”, “Diablo” and “Guilt Trippin'”, the three songs that came out ahead of the album’s release on 3 July. “Diablo” featured a special guest in the shape of Grammy-winning guitarist and songwriter Keith Urban, who joins the band on second guitar. With “Splat!” now out as a single too, that makes four songs from the album that fans have been able to watch and stream on their own.

What is the SPLAT! album all about?

SPLAT! is Deep Purple’s 24th studio album, and it follows four previous studio records that all reached number one in multiple countries. It was made with producer Bob Ezrin, who has now worked with the band six times, having been behind every Deep Purple album since 2013’s Now What?!.

The band themselves describe it as the heaviest Deep Purple album in many years, recorded the way they have always recorded, with everyone playing together in the studio. Gillan says the band are back with material that is compatible with “Highway Star”, “Smoke on the Water” and “Lazy”, talking about the dynamics, the balance and the fun of the music they made from 1969 to 1973. The full track listing runs: “Arrogant Boy”, “Diablo”, “The Rider”, “The Lunatic”, “The Only Horse In Town”, “Sacred Land”, “The Beating Of Wings”, “Guilt Trippin'”, “Scriblin’ Gib’rish”, “Jessica’s Bra”, “Third Call”, “My New Movie” and “Splat!”.

What is on the limited Deep Purple Splat CD and vinyl?

Collectors get a special physical release. “Splat!” is now available to pre-order on a limited CD Digisleeve maxi-single, strictly limited to 3,000 copies, and on a limited 12-inch crystal clear vinyl maxi-single, pressed on 180g vinyl to play at 45rpm and strictly limited to 2,500 copies.

The real draw is the B-side. Both formats include two previously unreleased live recordings captured at Montreux Jazz Festival on 13 July 2026:

  • Side A: “Splat!”
  • Side B: “Scriblin’ Gib’rish” (live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2026)
  • Side B: “Guinnesis” (live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2026)

“Scriblin’ Gib’rish” is taken from SPLAT!, while “Guinnesis” is the bonus track that is otherwise only available in the SPLAT! box set, and here you get both as live recordings. If you want the whole album rather than the single, the standard CD is on Amazon UK through the box above.

Who is in Deep Purple in 2026?

The current line-up is Ian Gillan on vocals, Roger Glover on bass, Ian Paice on drums, Don Airey on keyboards and Simon McBride on guitar. Gillan, Glover and Paice have been part of the band’s story for decades, Airey’s keyboards are a huge part of the sound, and McBride brings the fire on guitar.

The band’s catalogue is one of the most important in hard rock. If you are new to them, Deep Purple In Rock, Machine Head, Made In Japan and Perfect Strangers are the usual starting points, with songs like “Smoke on the Water”, “Highway Star” and “Child In Time” still among the band’s most streamed songs. SPLAT! sits proudly alongside them as the latest chapter.

Is Deep Purple touring in 2026?

Yes. The band are currently on the European arena leg of the SPLAT! World Tour, which comprises 86 shows across 28 countries on three continents. After dates across Europe, the tour concludes in South America in December. Full dates and ticket links are listed on the official Deep Purple tour page.

What else is happening in rock this week?

It has been a busy few days for new music. London-born guitar hero Lita Ford has signed with Frontiers and is releasing her dark new single “Dracula” on 27 October, glam rock favourites Sweet put out their live album Live 25 today while they plan their December UK tour, and today is also general sale day for Bon Jovi at BST Hyde Park in 2027.
