Air Guitar World Championships 2025

Riffs, Glory, and a Finnish Victory 25 Years in the Making

The Air Guitar World Championships 2025 exploded into life in Oulu, Finland, with 16 finalists from 13 nations battling it out in a flurry of invisible solos, theatrical flair, and pure rock-star bravado. And when the dust settled, it was Finland’s own Aapo “The Angus” Rautio who claimed the crown — the country’s first win since 2000.

The Final Showdown: Aapo “The Angus” Rautio Rocks the World

In a nail-biting finale, Rautio and Japan’s Yuta “Sudo-chan” Sudo were tied after two rounds, forcing an unprecedented “Air Off” — a sudden-death shredfest judged by a five-member panel of performing arts pros. Rautio edged ahead by just 0.1 points, sealing his victory with a high-energy routine that had the crowd roaring and the judges floored.

Air Guitar World Championships 2025 Final Scores:

UK’s Piers Burnell Brings Bond Swagger to the Stage

Representing the UK was Piers Burnell, aka “James Bond Double Air Seven,” whose mashup of spy themes and rock anthems turned heads in the qualifying rounds. His cinematic routine featured John Barry’s “007,” a Spanish rendition of Sheryl Crow’s “Tomorrow Never Dies,” and a thunderous blast of Guns N’ Roses’ “Live and Let Die”.

Though Burnell missed the final by just 0.7 points, his performance was a fan favourite. Part MI6, part Mick Jagger, and all heart. He’s already vowed to return for the 30th anniversary edition next year, when Oulu doubles as the European Capital of Culture.

Highlights from the Air Guitar World Championships 2025

  • Lady Attila from France delivered mythic moves and serpentine solos in a Medusa-inspired routine.
  • Van Airhoven from Germany fused baroque shred with brutal riffs, dressed like a glam-rock Beethoven.
  • Six String Sal from the USA brought southern soul and stadium swagger, complete with a peace flag cape.
  • Leonfire from Belgium lit up the stage with pyro-powered panache and earned the crowd’s love.

Air Guitar World Championships : The Instrument Of World Peace

Air Guitar Championships 2025

The Air Guitar World Championships aren’t just about invisible instruments, they’re about unity, absurdity, and joy. With the motto “Make Air, Not War,” the event champions world peace through shared rhythm and theatrical rebellion.

Props and costumes are welcome. Real instruments? Strictly banned. Contestants are judged on “Airness,” originality, and the ability to be completely consumed by the music.

Start Practicing — The 2026 Air Guitar World Championships Are Coming

With Oulu set to host the 30th anniversary edition next year, the stage is already being set for an even bigger showdown. Whether you’re a bedroom shredder or a festival veteran, now’s the time to perfect your power stance, windmill technique, and face-melting solos.

Because in this world, you don’t need strings to make noise, just passion, presence, and a whole lot of air.
