The Molotovs Light Up the UK 7-Inch Singles Chart with “Today’s Gonna Be Our Day”

In a week where vinyl nostalgia collided with Gen Z defiance, The Molotovs have stormed to the Number 1 spot on the UK 7-inch singles chart with their incendiary new track “Today’s Gonna Be Our Day.” Released via Marshall Records, the limited-edition pressing — backed with the B-side “No Time To Talk” — has become a must-have for collectors and a rallying cry for a new generation of rock fans.

The London-based sibling duo, Mathew and Issey Cartlidge, have been steadily building a grassroots following through relentless gigging and a no-frills, high-octane sound. But this chart-topping moment marks a major breakthrough — not just for the band, but for the resurgence of DIY rock ‘n’ roll in a digital-first world.

“Today’s Gonna Be Our Day” is a snarling, anthemic call to arms. Produced by Jason Perry (Don Broco, Trash Boat) and mixed by Blair Crichton of Dead Pony, the track blends Britpop swagger with punk urgency. “It’s an anti-complacency song,” says frontman Mathew Cartlidge. “A call to arms for my generation to keep the faith and reject apathy… it’s about the power of youth.” That title — Today’s Gonna Be Our Day — isn’t just a hook. It’s a mission statement, shouted with conviction and aimed straight at the hearts of a restless generation.

The single arrives ahead of their debut album Wasted On Youth, slated for release on January 30, 2026 — a record already being hailed as a modern punk manifesto. With themes of social awareness, personal struggle, and youthful defiance, it promises to channel the chaos and hope of modern adolescence into something loud, raw, and unforgettable.

The Molotovs’ rise has been anything but manufactured. With support slots for Blondie, the Sex Pistols, and Adam Ant, plus appearances at SXSW and a UK tour under their belts, they’ve earned their stripes the old-school way. Their recent signing with Solo Music Agency — the team behind the Isle of Wight Festival — adds more rocket fuel to their ascent.

With festival stages and a North American tour looming, The Molotovs are proving that rock isn’t just alive — it’s rallying. And this chart triumph? It’s not just a victory lap.

It’s Day One.
