New Jefferson Starship Single “Jetpack” Out Now – First New Material in 5 Years
The legendary Jefferson Starship have released their new Jefferson Starship single “Jetpack” – the band’s first new material in five years.
The explosive track has already been a regular feature of the band’s recent live performances and was first showcased during their summer dates, including a performance at London’s Wembley Arena. Driving lead guitars from Jude Gold combine with an instantly memorable melody from powerhouse vocalist Cathy Richardson.

About the New Single
Cathy Richardson said:
“Jude had written a song around the chorus that was kind of a love song about wanting to disappear with someone into the cosmos. He asked me to take a stab at some different lyrics. I loved the music and the hook was really strong. I thought about why I would want to strap on a rocket and blast off the planet, and the words just came spilling out. We recorded it a while ago with a different ending, but then I had an idea for an outro, and I really wanted to hear the band jam out over that chord progression and go to space musically.”
The single also features longtime Jefferson Starship bassist Pete Sears, adding a direct link between the band’s celebrated past and their music today.
Current Activity
2025 saw Jefferson Starship complete their successful 50th Anniversary Tour. The band have continued the momentum with dates across North America and Europe in 2026, including their first UK shows in over a decade (supporting Foreigner). They are currently touring North America with Deep Purple, as well as headlining their own “Runaway Again” tour.
The band are also working on a new studio album, with a release date still to be confirmed.
Live, Jefferson Starship continue to perform global hits from their extensive catalogue spanning Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and Starship, including “White Rabbit”, “We Built This City”, “Jane”, “Sarah”, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”, “Find Your Way Back” and “Somebody To Love”.
Rock News final word: The new Jefferson Starship single “Jetpack” is a strong, energetic return after five years without new music. With a memorable hook and a solid live reaction already, it suggests the forthcoming album could be well worth waiting for.
