Glenn Hughes Returns with Chosen Album in 2025

Rock Icon’s Triumphant Comeback with Chosen

Rock legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Glenn Hughes marks his return with the new studio album, Chosen, slated for release on September 5, 2025. After a nine-year solo hiatus since Resonate (2016), this 2025 release fuses hard rock, soul, and funk, showcasing Hughes’s signature voice—hailed by Stevie Wonder as his favorite white singer. To kick things off, the title track and its music video dropped today.

A Deep Dive into Chosen’s Soulful Craft

Hughes reveals, “Songwriting is deeply personal… It’s an album of soul food, written from within about the human condition, love, hope, faith, and acceptance.” Recorded with Soren Andersen (guitar), Ash Sheehan (drums), and Bob Fridzema (keys), Chosen spans 10 tracks, including “Voice In My Head,” “Into The Fade,” and the emotive “Forgive.” Produced by Andersen, the album echoes Deep Purple’s Burn (1974) energy while adding a modern rock edge. The cover art, inspired by abandoned satellites and nature’s resilience, ties into Hughes’s introspective lyrics, as noted on glennhughes.com.

A Legacy Forged in Rock and Soul

Born in Cannock, England, Hughes soaked up British hard rock, The Beatles, and American soul/R&B from Motown and Stax/Volt. His journey began with Trapeze in the early ’70s, followed by a game-changing stint with Deep Purple in 1973 alongside David Coverdale. The Burn lineup headlined California Jam before 1976’s disbandment, leaving classics like Stormbringer and Come Taste The Band. His solo career kicked off with Play Me Out (1977), while Hughes/Thrall (1982) showcased his versatility. Guest spots with Gary Moore, John Norum, and Tony Iommi (including Fused, 2005) cement his “singer’s singer” status.

Recent Collabs and Creative Peaks

Since 1992, Hughes has dropped a dozen solo albums, exploring funk, rock, and contemporary sounds with talents like Chad Smith, Dave Navarro, and John Frusciante. Projects like California Breed, Black Country Communion (with Joe Bonamassa), and The Dead Daisies highlight his range. In 2025, he teamed with Robbie Williams on “Rocket” (May 22) featuring Tony Iommi—their first collab since Fused. He also joins Satch Vai (Joe Satriani and Steve Vai) on “I Wanna Play My Guitar,” adding fresh fire to his catalog.
