Well, it’s finally here—Dolly’s reincarnation as a rock star, and my God, this is one epic album. Incredibly, this marks Dolly’s 49th solo album, and the vinyl version spans a whopping 4 LPs.

Dolly Parton, the global icon who rose from poverty to stardom, has become everyone’s guilty pleasure. If you claim not to love the song “Jolene,” you’re either a liar or simply not a fan of music. Interestingly, Dolly’s exposure to rock over the years is owed to her husband, Carl, who happens to be an AC/DC fan.

I owe Eric Bibb an apology. Initially I was reluctant to even listen to this album, far less review it. The reason? Well, at some point in the dim and distant I heard a bit of Bibb, and put him down as a purveyor of the kind of twee, folky acoustic blues that turns me right off. Well, however true or not that judgement may have been at the time, it certainly isn’t a fair reflection of Ridin’.
