What is the new Spanish Love Songs single “Welcome To Hell” like?

The band call “Welcome To Hell” a bar-band rock song, and it is a clear marker for the bigger, broader sound they have embraced on Future Nausea. Where earlier records were rooted in punk, this one reaches for the widescreen sweep of classic heartland rock, with shimmering synths, ringing guitars and choruses built for singing back.

Vocalist Dylan Slocum says the track was written to relieve some of the pressure on an intense album. “There’s a narrow line to walk when writing a song that is even vaguely political, and I always want to make sure we don’t fall into finger-wagging,” he explains. “We’re telling stories about people fighting their way through life, not prescribing any absolute sort of answer.”

He adds that the song “starts with someone like me and is an attack on cynicism. Then it moves on to the changes being forced down our throats by techno-oligarchs in the name of profit, and wraps up questioning whether all of us are settling for a worse world in the name of convenience, or worse, apathy.”

When is the Spanish Love Songs album Future Nausea released?

Future Nausea is out on Friday 6 November 2026 via Pure Noise Records, on CD and a limited white vinyl with blue, red and gold splatter. It follows Schmaltz (2018), Brave Faces Everyone (2020) and No Joy (2023), and the band describe it as their most ambitious record yet.

There are twelve tracks on the album:

  1. Future Nausea
  2. Good American
  3. Welcome To Hell
  4. New Fears
  5. Living Blues
  6. Jan666
  7. Doom Tripping
  8. Shadowland
  9. No Dreams
  10. Future Nausea Pt. 2
  11. See You on the Way Out
  12. Until the Sun Explodes

Who produced Future Nausea?

The album was produced by former Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla, whose credits include Tegan and Sara and Foxing, together with Illuminati Hotties’ Sarah Tudzin, who has worked with Boygenius and Kississippi. It is a big-name pairing, and the band say it changed how they work.

“Chris really pushed us out of our production comfort zones by telling us to be confident and clear in our intentions,” the band say. “We really rode that energy into finding the best version of the band that we’ve ever had.”

What is Future Nausea about?

Lyrically, Future Nausea takes on political violence, climate anxiety, late-stage capitalism and an increasingly uncertain future. It is heavy subject matter, but Slocum’s writing turns that anxiety and anger into immediate, anthemic rock songs. Earlier single “Good American” follows a veteran left with nothing by the country that sent him to war, while “Welcome To Hell” turns its fire on cynicism and the tech giants reshaping everyday life.

For all the dread in the title, the record keeps finding reasons to carry on. Love, friendship and community run right through it, which is exactly what has made Spanish Love Songs such a cult favourite with fans who want honesty from their rock music.

Who are Spanish Love Songs?

Spanish Love Songs are a five-piece rock band from Los Angeles: Dylan Slocum, Meredith Van Woert, Kyle McAulay, Ruben Duarte and Mike Trujillo. Across more than a decade of relentless touring they have built a devoted following for songs that tackle mental health, money worries and modern life with rare candour, and Future Nausea is their biggest-sounding record so far.

The band are also known for standing up for grassroots music. Their November run of the US is the first ever tour certified by the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) as a “Live Independent Tour”, playing independent venues only, and almost every date has already sold out.

Rock News final word

“Welcome To Hell” is the sound of a band growing up without losing their bite. It is big, warm and singalong, but there is real anger underneath, and that balance is what Spanish Love Songs do better than almost anyone. With Future Nausea two weeks away and a UK tour that puts fans first with £20 tickets, this is a band worth catching in February.
