Air Guitar World Championships 2025
Riffs, Glory, and a Finnish Victory 25 Years in the Making
The Air Guitar World Championships 2025 exploded into life in Oulu, Finland, with 16 finalists from 13 nations battling it out in a flurry of invisible solos, theatrical flair, and pure rock-star bravado. And when the dust settled, it was Finland’s own Aapo “The Angus” Rautio who claimed the crown — the country’s first win since 2000.
The Final Showdown: Aapo “The Angus” Rautio Rocks the World

In a nail-biting finale, Rautio and Japan’s Yuta “Sudo-chan” Sudo were tied after two rounds, forcing an unprecedented “Air Off” — a sudden-death shredfest judged by a five-member panel of performing arts pros. Rautio edged ahead by just 0.1 points, sealing his victory with a high-energy routine that had the crowd roaring and the judges floored.

UK’s Piers Burnell Brings Bond Swagger to the Stage
Representing the UK was Piers Burnell, aka “James Bond Double Air Seven,” whose mashup of spy themes and rock anthems turned heads in the qualifying rounds. His cinematic routine featured John Barry’s “007,” a Spanish rendition of Sheryl Crow’s “Tomorrow Never Dies,” and a thunderous blast of Guns N’ Roses’ “Live and Let Die”.

Though Burnell missed the final by just 0.7 points, his performance was a fan favourite. Part MI6, part Mick Jagger, and all heart. He’s already vowed to return for the 30th anniversary edition next year, when Oulu doubles as the European Capital of Culture.
Highlights from the Air Guitar World Championships 2025
