Whisky Stain Hellfire Single and Official Video Out Now

Whisky Stain Hellfire is a killer single that takes no prisoners.

Nottingham two-piece Robert Lavington (guitar, bass, vocals) and Luke Grainger (drums) do the Royal Blood thing properly: two players, no spare parts, blues riffs and a kit that hits like a third member. They have been at it since 2011, with Dean Jackson at BBC Introducing among the early backers, and a slot on the Ray Donovan soundtrack for “The Lord’s Revolver”. This one is the punch.

Stream and download it now. Vinyl is I Can’t Be Your Love But I’ll Give You Hellfire.

The video

The official Whisky Stain Hellfire video was filmed at Nottingham Arts Theatre and produced by Rachael Halaburda. Performance clip, not a story: the pair in the dark, red light through the smoke, built to match the title.

Luke’s fiancé Abby Field ran the smoke machine from behind the curtain. First time the band have used it on a shoot, and they said it nearly took them out. Halaburda locked that red wash to the sound of the track. Simple concept, done right.

EP launch

Whisky Stain play an EP launch at The Grove, Nottingham on Friday 17 October.

Tickets: Gigantic

Hellfire has been in the live set for a while. Now it has the official video, the vinyl and a hometown room.

Rock News final word: Whisky Stain Hellfire takes no prisoners — riff, drums, vocal, out. If you already know “Do What You Came For” or “Flicker Show”, this is the one that leaves a mark. Grove on 17 October is where you hear it the way it was written.
