Exist Immortal Return With New Record: Afterglow

UK progressive metal heavyweights Exist Immortal are back, and they are charting a fierce new course. The South East quintet have officially announced their long-awaited return with a brand-new five-track record, the Exist Immortal Afterglow EP, slated for release on 11th September via Seek & Strike.

For over ten years, Exist Immortal have sat comfortably at the sharp edge of the British progressive metal landscape. Fusing crushing metalcore foundations with intricate technicality, soaring melodic soundscapes, and subtle contemporary pop sensibilities, the band have consistently refused to be boxed into generic sub-genre conventions. Yet, despite an acclaimed self-titled album in 2022 and a prolific run of standalone singles throughout 2024—including ‘Play Pretend’, ‘Dreamscape’, ‘Hollow’, ‘Higher Ground’ (featuring VEXED), and ‘By Design’—their forthcoming release represents an entirely new plateau.

A Story of Resilience and Creative Rebirth

Exist Immortal Afterglow EP

The Exist Immortal Afterglow EP is far more than a standard collection of songs; it is a document of survival and rebirth. Written and shaped during an intensely turbulent period of personal upheaval, health challenges, a line-up transition, and moments that threw the band’s very future into question, the new material reflects a group staring down adversity and choosing to rebuild.

Reflecting on the grueling yet rewarding creative process behind the record, the band shared: “Afterglow is the sound of us finding out what this band actually is. We wrote and rebuilt it through a period of real upheaval, a lineup change, personal challenges, health challenges and a stretch that tested whether we’d keep going at all. Somehow it came out the most assured, most deliberate thing we’ve made.”

Musically, that resilience translates into a stark, laser-focused execution. The Exist Immortal Afterglow EP strips away unnecessary excess in favour of raw, unadulterated purpose. Colder, heavier, and significantly more intentional than anything in their past catalogue, the tracks boast sharper songwriting, immense dynamic impact, and a pervasive sense of absolute confidence. Every calculated riff, atmospheric flourish, and massive hook serves the songs with surgical precision.

Alongside the announcement, fans have been treated to the crushing title track, complete with an official music video that sets a bleak, cinematic tone. Describing the focus track, the band noted: “The opening statement and the most complete thing we’ve made to date. It sets the tone for everything the EP is about, facing the wreckage head-on and choosing to rebuild against all odds. If you want to know where we are as a band right now, start here.”

Global Touring and Line-Up

Formed in 2011, Exist Immortal—comprising Meyrick de la Fuente (vocals), Kurt Valencia (guitars), Mikey Gee (guitars), David Billote (bass), and Charlie Bines (drums)—have built an unyielding international reputation. Beyond the studio, their explosive live show has burned across borders via relentless touring throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas. They have graced the stages of heavy music mainstays such as Download Festival, Bloodstock Open Air, MetalDays, Euroblast, Maximum Rock Festival, and Complexity Fest, while sharing planks with heavy prog royalty like SikTh, Textures, LANDMVRKS, and Cynic. Following a massive main stage headline slot at UK Tech-Fest in 2022 and packed-out headline runs in Mexico and Japan, this next era positions them to push even further.

For fans of modern heavy music akin to LANDMVRKS, Imminence, and Volumes, the Exist Immortal Afterglow EP is shaping up to be an essential autumn release. It marks a defiant, heavier evolution for a band that has weathered the storm and emerged entirely re-forged.
