Download 2026: Road Closures If you are rocking out at Donington Park next weekend—or even if you’re just trying to commute nearby—you’ll want to take note of the newly announced traffic plans. To keep things moving and prevent gridlock, a series of fixed closures, a one-way system, and several contingency measures have been put in place for Download Festival 2026.
Here is a breakdown of what to expect on the roads so you don’t get stuck in traffic when you should be catching your favourite bands.

The main restrictions are scheduled around the peak egress times when thousands of fans leave the site each night. These will run from 9:00 pm until 2:00 am on Friday 12 June, Saturday 13 June, and Sunday 14 June:

  • Walton Hill Junction Closure: A temporary closure will hit the Walton Hill junction between Isley Walton and the Hilltop lights. This is designed to get festival-goers out of the site as safely and quickly as possible.
  • Melbourne Road & A453 One-Way System: A temporary one-way system will run from the junction of Slade Lane and Melbourne Lane down to the A453. All traffic will be forced to turn right onto the A453, continuing as a one-way system up to the Moor Lane junction heading towards the A42, where standard two-way traffic will resume.

Residential Contingency Closures (Only Used If Needed)

To stop festival traffic from using residential shortcuts, several backup closures are ready to go. Traffic marshals will only trigger these if the main roads become heavily congested. Keep an eye out if you usually travel through these spots:

  • Donington Bypass at Park Lane
  • A453 at Grimes Gate, The Green, and Gelscoe Lane
  • Melbourne Lane at Slade Lane and Forty Foot Lane
  • Cockshut Lane at Derby Road
  • Main Street at Packhorse Road and at Main Street

If you are flying out of East Midlands Airport, using local rail links (which are facing separate engineering works over the weekend), or driving anywhere near Isley Walton and Melbourne Lane, allow plenty of extra time.
Keep your sat-navs updated, follow the yellow festival signs rather than your phone if you are heading to the car parks, and prepare for a bit of a wait during peak exit hours!
