From Couch to Chaos: Dads on Couches Drop Riotous New EP

Two years of grinding. Zero recordings — until now. Monroe County’s finest fatherly foursome, Dads on Couches, have finally traded living room rehearsals for digital permanence with their debut EP, After Two Years Of Grinding, All We Have Are These Measly Demos. Spoiler: these five tracks are anything but measly.

Out on July 4 via Punkerton Records, the release is a snarling, self-aware celebration of punk’s enduring DIY spirit. Led by brothers Christopher and Nicholas Capaul, the band channels unfiltered energy through familial chaos and middle-aged mischief. If Face to Face, Misfits, and your uncle’s malfunctioning leaf blower formed a supergroup, it might sound a bit like this.

Musical Mischief & Melodic Punch

Each song snaps with melody, grit, and more dad charm than a discounted BBQ aisle. The band isn’t just leaning into the shtick — they’re living it. With members who moonlight as a Funeral Professional, a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, a Dean of Students, and an Operating Engineer, these guys truly are “dad to the bone.”

Two tracks stand out as centerpieces:

  • “Idolatry” — a razor-sharp critique of misguided worship, taking aim at the cults of celebrity, conformity, and suburban gloss. It lacerates with intensity and introspection.
  • “WTF?!?!” — the EP’s closing tantrum: feral, frantic, and unmistakably honest. It captures every unspoken scream of adulthood and slams it into three chaotic minutes.

Despite the playful EP title, the production is taut and dynamic. It’s proof that even the most couch-bound punk dads can make a racket worth hearing.

Dadhood, Depression & Deadpan Delivery

Underneath the sardonic grins lies a striking honesty — lyrics touch on mental health, modern masculinity, and the surreal comedy of raising children while clinging to artistic identity. “We’re not washed up, just well-wrung,” croons Christopher Capaul, summing up the mood with emotional resonance and a wink.

This isn’t parody — it’s lived experience turned into musical therapy. As Benny Capaul (The Boy Detective, Capaul) puts it:

“These dads… are as comical at times as a dad joke, and as impressive as a new lawnmower they’ll rave about.”

From Living Rooms to Local Stages

With their first recordings now released, Dads on Couches are hitting the stage with unapologetic swagger. Expect wild energy and full dad regalia at:

  • July 12 @ Splish Splash Bash, Hazel Park, MI
  • July 26 @ Glimmer Gala, Monroe, MI

The band blends melodic punk with breakdown-heavy blasts — a sound built not to impress, but to connect. At a time when much of punk is polished and curated, Dads on Couches offer authenticity in sweat-soaked denim.

Full Tracklist

  1. Colonel McHowell Knows Best
  2. Enfeeble (Don’t Take It Away)
  3. L.F.A.
  4. Idolatry
  5. WTF?!?!

Each song adds its own spin to the chaos — from ironic anthems to existential outbursts. Together, they form a portrait of dad punk that’s messy, honest, and surprisingly profound.

Final Word

After Two Years Of Grinding… isn’t just the sound of four dads venting — it’s a battle cry for grown-up punks still clinging to purpose, humor, and community. Dads on Couches have turned domestic noise into something rebellious, reflective, and real.

In a world where couch potatoes are easy to ignore, these dads made sure you heard them.
