The Southern California five-piece just dropped their scorching new single “Better Of Me,” a gritty, piano-driven anthem pulled from their upcoming studio album Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes, set for release on August 22 via Journeyman Records, the label helmed by blues legend Joe Bonamassa.

Co-written with longtime collaborator Nick Foster, “Better Of Me” finds Robert Jon & The Wreck in peak form—blending their signature southern rock swagger with emotional grit and an instantly infectious hook. The track’s stomping piano intro and crunchy guitars echo the raw energy of The Basement Tapes and Second Helping, while frontman Robert Jon delivers a lyrical gut punch about self-worth, resilience, and refusing to be broken.
“It’s a jamming, rollicking tune that wears its heart on its sleeve… It’s an empowering affirmation that talks about not letting anyone get the best of you,” says guitarist Henry James.
The single was produced by Grammy-winner Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Rival Sons) and recorded in Savannah, GA, where the band lived together during the sessions. That sense of camaraderie and creative freedom pulses through every riff, every lyric, and every drumbeat.
“This record really represents who we are right now, both musically and personally,” explains Robert Jon. “We stepped away from our day-to-day and just focused on the songs—and you can feel that in every track.”
