The Hot Damn! Set Nottingham’s Bodega Ablaze on Their ‘Dancing On The Milky Way’ Tour
Nottingham’s Bodega was ablaze with energy as The Hot Damn! rolled into town for the second date of their highly anticipated Dancing On The Milky Way Tour. The night was a kaleidoscope of vibrant sounds and infectious energy, showcasing the band’s knack for blending hard rock with playful pop sensibilities.
Supporting The Hot Damn! were two stellar acts that added their unique flavours to the night. Local band The Albion’s opened the show, grateful for the opportunity to play at The Bodega for the second time. Their set was met with enthusiastic support from the crowd, who sang along to their tunes, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Amongst Liars, hailing from Eastbourne, brought a heavier sound to the evening. Their performance was nothing short of electrifying, with guitarist Leo Burdett delivering a standout moment. During several of their songs, Burdett stood on the edge of the stage, wielding his guitar inches from the crowd’s noses, giving the front row a thrilling experience. Later, he took his performance into the crowd, playing amongst the fans before making his way back to the stage, much to their amazement.
With a quick stage rearrangement The Hot Damn! appeared and tonight they are performing their latest album release in full, albeit in a slightly different order to the track listing. Each song an excellent live reproduction of their studio performance. Starting with the anthemic “Fizz Buzz Crash” to the reflective “Sticky Clubs” where the band take on a ballad together. It’s clear to see the enthusiasm The Hot Damn have tonight as they seamlessly perform song after song with catchy hooks and high-octane rock.
One of the highlights of the evening was their humorous “No Shame Merch Song,” a clever parody using the tune of Janis Joplin’s “Mercedes Benz.” The band improvised lyrics to promote their merchandise, much to the delight of the audience. It was a fun and engaging way to connect with the fans, and judging by the crowd’s reaction, their merch was flying off the shelves.
The Hot Damn! themselves were in top form, with each member bringing their A-game. Vocalist Gill Montgomery’s powerful voice soared through the venue, while Josie O’Toole’s drumming provided a solid backbone to their sound. Guitarist Laurie Buchanan and bassist Lzi Hayes rounded out the lineup, their chemistry evident in every note played.
The band’s playful banter and infectious energy kept the audience engaged from start to finish and without encouragement from the girls on stage, the packed bodega crowd were singing and dancing to the incredible music filling the room. The vibe tonight was electric, a true celebration that surely filled the band with pride as their latest masterpiece was met with such fervent acclaim, proving that The Hot Damn! are one of the most exciting acts on the scene today.
As the final notes of their set rang out, the crowd erupted into applause, a testament to the unforgettable night they had just experienced. The Hot Damn!’s Dancing On The Milky Way Tour is a must-see, and if their Nottingham show is any indication, fans are in for an out of this world ride.
