Witnessing Greatness: Samantha Fish’s Legendary Rock City Performance
The Zac Schulze Gang
The Zac Schulze Gang made a strong impression as tonight’s opening act, delivering a performance that was nothing short of exhilarating. Zac himself, with his black flat cap and rock-star swagger, bears a striking resemblance to a younger Brian Johnson of AC/DC, but when he picks up the guitar, it’s all Angus Young—blistering riffs, raw power, and undeniable stage presence.
Midway through the set, out of nowhere, the bassist took over the mic and surprised the crowd with his own vocal chops. Not only can this band play, but they’ve also got depth, with everyone pulling their weight, both musically and vocally.
The highlight of their set came during the final song, which began with a slow, teasing intro of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.” Just as the crowd was settling in, they flipped the script and kicked into an intense, high-energy blues jam, leaving the audience fired up and ready for more. It was an unexpected twist that showcased the band’s ability to blend classic rock with gritty, bluesy goodness.
This was my first time seeing The Zac Schulze Gang live, and boy, did they impress. Their raw talent, enthusiasm, and tight performance set the tone for an unforgettable night of music.
Samantha Fish
I feel like I need to apologize on behalf of all the rock and blues media out there because the word just isn’t getting out—Samantha Fish is one of the greatest artists of our time, and she should be playing arenas. Luckily for those of us in the know, we still get to see her light up venues like Nottingham Rock City. And tonight, she did just that.
Samantha Fish returned to Nottingham Rock City tonight, and as much as last year’s tour with Jesse Dayton to promote their Deathwish Blues album was a stellar gig, I had a gut feeling this show would top it. Spoiler alert: it did. From the opening MC5 cover, “Kick Out the Jams,” Samantha wasted no time diving into the electric “Wild Heart” and the irresistibly catchy “Better Be Lonely.” The energy in the room was immediate, and her guitar riffs were as fierce as ever. As she said herself, “It’s incredible to be back at Rock City!”
Her performance on “Kill or Be Kind” was nothing short of sublime, a standout moment that perfectly captured the raw emotion and precision that makes Fish such a magnetic live performer. The night was filled with such highlights, including her call for a sing-along before the infectious “Chills and Fever,” where she teased the crowd with, “Are you guys ready for the sing-along?” Just when you think she can’t take it any higher she takes it to 11.
Fish’s setlist was a masterclass in blues-rock, blending her originals with carefully chosen covers that she made entirely her own. Modern anthems like “Bulletproof” showcased her genre-bending brilliance.
For the encore, Samantha brought The Zac Schulze Gang on stage for an unforgettable performance of R.L. Burnside’s “Goin’ Down South.” The crowd was treated to an epic guitar duel, as Samantha and Zac took turns soloing, proving just how incredible they both are. It was a jaw-dropping finish that left everyone buzzing long after the final note.
“Watching Samantha Fish live is like witnessing a legend”
Having attended more gigs than I can count, I’ve forgotten most of them, but Samantha Fish always stands out. She remains one of the few artists who consistently raises the bar, time after time. Live, she’s an unstoppable force, and tonight, she was nothing short of phenomenal.
If you haven’t yet experienced Samantha Fish live, do yourself a favor and make it a priority. Her passion, talent, and energy on stage make for a truly unforgettable night of music. “You’ll feel every note in your soul!” Trust me—once you see her perform in person, you’ll be hooked. Don’t miss your chance to witness one of the most electrifying artists of our time!
