Back To The Beginning Film Brings Ozzy and Black Sabbath’s Final Show to Cinemas
Trafalgar Releasing and Mercury Studios have set a global cinema release for OZZY & BLACK SABBATH: BACK TO THE BEGINNING.
The film captures the final live performance from Ozzy Osbourne and the original Black Sabbath line-up — Ozzy, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward — at Villa Park on 5 July 2025. That show was 17 days before Ozzy’s death.
It runs as an event release from 28 October 2026. Tickets go on sale at 3pm BST on Thursday 24 September at backtothebeginning.com.
The night
Sharon Osbourne, who oversaw the event, said it started with a simple question: what would actually make Ozzy happy.
“He said the only thing that would make him happy was if he could perform again and say goodbye to his fans. That’s all he wanted to do. He wanted to say goodbye and thank you.”
The sold-out Birmingham date mixed an Ozzy solo set with the original Sabbath four playing together for the first time in more than 20 years. Jason Momoa hosted. Tom Morello was musical director.
The bill included Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Gojira, Guns N’ Roses, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Metallica, Pantera, Rival Sons, Slayer and Tool, plus a long list of all-star guests.
Iommi called it “a closure for the band.” Butler described “a wave of love.” Ward said it felt like being at home, “almost like I was in a dream.” Morello said there had been no precedent for a show like it, with Sabbath finishing “in the Ground Zero of where they created heavy metal.”
The film

Directed for screen by Ben Wainwright-Pearce, with the live concert directed by Tim van Someren, it is built for cinemas in Dolby Atmos and 5.1. Mercury Studios previously livestreamed the concert; this is the theatrical cut.
Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, called the night a landmark cultural moment and said the cinema run is a chance to put that farewell on the biggest screen available.
Rock News final word: Back To The Beginning is the last time that line-up stood in the city that made them. The cinema release is for anyone who could not get to Villa Park, and for anyone who wants that goodbye without the livestream compromises. Tickets first, then the rest of the noise.
