Gregg Allman Dies at 69
Rock legend Gregg Allman, one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers has died at the age of 69 at his home in Georgia on Saturday. Gregg had a liver transplant in 2010 after suffering with hepatitis C. The Allman brothers formed in the 60’s and had many hits but will always be known for Jessica in the UK as the theme tune to Top Gear. Gregg the keyboardist wrote many of the bands biggest hits including Midnight Rider, Whipping Post and It’s Not My Cross to Bear.
Singer Cher who was married to him said on Twitter “words are impossible”
The band had some bad luck in 1971 when Duane Allman the guitarist just 24 died in a motorbike accident. A year later the bassist Berry Oakley also died in a motorbike accident.
Gregg had five children and suffered with drug addiction.
