Following the critical and chart success of his 2023 solo album, Songs From The Blue Room, Luke Morley returns with a brand-new single, ‘Walking On Water’—the first taste of his upcoming solo album of the same name, set to drop later this year.
Morley, best known as the songwriter, lead guitarist, and producer of legendary British rock band Thunder, has been shaping the UK rock scene for over 35 years. With seven Top 10 albums and 18 Top 40 singles, Thunder has maintained a devoted fanbase, despite often being overlooked by mainstream media. Their most recent UK tour was their biggest yet, closing with a sold-out Wembley Arena show—a testament to their enduring power.
However, when Thunder went on an indefinite hiatus following frontman Danny Bowes’ recovery from a serious stroke in 2022, Morley seized the moment to further explore his solo artistry. The title track, ‘Walking On Water’, takes a sharp and satirical look at the arrogance of celebrity culture, imagining a Jesus-like figure returning to Earth—but with an ego bigger than expected.
🎤 Morley explains:
“What if Jesus came back to Earth but wasn’t like we thought he would be? What if he behaved like a lot of the vacuous celebrities we see on TV? What if he enjoyed the limelight and wanted us all to know we were barely worthy of his time? What if he was more like Donald Trump, wore a silver suit, and was a fan of Creedence Clearwater Revival?
This song is all of the above.”
With its witty lyricism, dynamic guitar work, and infectious melody, ‘Walking On Water’ is another masterclass in songwriting from Morley.
