Royal Republic’s LoveCop Tour A Night of 80s Nostalgia and Rock Brilliance at Nottingham’s Rock City

Last night, Rock City in Nottingham was a time machine, blasting the crowd back to the 80s with Royal Republic’s LoveCop tour. The Swedish rockers, clad in sleek leather jackets, brought an electrifying mix of rock, disco, and funk that had fans buzzing from the get-go.

The band kicked off with “My House,” setting a high-energy tone. The setlist was a perfect blend of old favourites and new tracks from their latest album. “Getting Along” and “Freakshow” had the crowd dancing, while “Stop Motion” featured an impressive drum solo that showcased their musical prowess.

The light show was a visual feast, with vibrant colours, rotating strip lights, and spotlights creating a dazzling display. The 80s-inspired neon colours and geometric patterns added to the retro feel, making the experience truly immersive. Adding to the spectacle, Adam wielded a light-up Flying V guitar that glowed brilliantly, and the drum kit itself was illuminated from within, making each beat a visual delight.

Standout moments included the performance of “Lazerlove,” a ballad that captures the 80s vibe with shimmering synths and heartfelt lyrics. But the real magic happened during “Ain’t Got Time” when frontman Adam Grahn ventured into the crowd. Standing on a box, he auditioned a fan to join him on the box. Adam declaried, “The cowbell is the sexiest instrument there is!” allowing the crowd member to play the instrument as the band played the song. A great interaction and a moment that everyone within three feet of the spectacle won’t forget.

Midway through the gig, the band gathered at the front of the stage for an acoustic set. Adam picked up an acoustic guitar, and they performed stripped-down versions of “Wow” and “Boomerang.” Even drummer Per Andreasson joined in on vocals, adding rich harmonies that filled the venue.

Throughout the night, the band’s energy never waned. Adam’s charismatic interactions with the audience, combined with the tight, polished performances from Hannes Irengård on guitar, Jonas Almén on bass, and Per Andreasson on drums, kept the crowd engaged and entertained.

The night ended with a rousing rendition of “Rata Tata,” perfectly encapsulating the fun, carefree spirit of the LoveCop tour. The crowd erupted in applause and appreciation. Whilst the gig may have been over Royal Republic didn’t want to leave the stage. They continued to take turns singing the gigs outro tune and after that was finished, they went on to give out everything that was left on the stage which included set lists, drumsticks and their unused bottles of water! Adam picked up the mic one last time to thank everyone in the venue for their support. His closing message was one of public information. He stated, “If you are driving………. don’t forget your car!” summing up how fun the night has been to be entertained by this brilliant band from Sweden.

Royal Republics performance tonight is a worthy contender for “Gig Of The year”. The music is great, the performance is tight, the colourful light show is amazing and the charism that oozes out of Adam Grahn is infectious. So, if want to be transported back to the 80s get yourself a ticket for one of the Royal Republics shows near you!
