Uplifting and Unstoppable: The Hot Damn! Shine on Dancing On The Milky Way Album Review – *****

The Hot Damn! launch Album Crowdfunder Campaign.

Well, this one has been a long time in the making. Here at Rock News, we’ve been following The Hot Damn! since their inception, and they never disappoint. Their live shows are legendary, complete with inflatable unicorns and brightly coloured suits that can lift anyone’s mood.

Finally, we have their debut album, Dancing On The Milky Way, which feels oddly overdue given how often they’ve graced our radio waves. This album is a quintessential slice of The Hot Damn!’s signature style: infectious energy, irresistible choruses, and an unapologetically uplifting spirit.

The album kicks off with “Fizz Buzz Crash,” a track that sets the tone perfectly. It opens with a hand-clap rhythm, and Gill Montgomery’s spirited greeting, “Ok you sexy mother fuckers,” immediately pulls you in. As with all their songs, it’s an uplifting experience with a chorus you can’t help but sing along to.

Next up is “Dance Around,” a recent single that you already know is great. It’s a familiar tune for fans, showcasing the band’s knack for crafting feel-good anthems.

“Jukebox On The Radio” follows, featuring a brilliant intro from Josie O’Toole and a killer chorus. It’s an obvious single choice, but then again, nearly every track on this album could be a hit.

“I Didn’t Like You Anyway” is one of their earliest singles and a fan favorite. We had the pleasure of seeing this performed live for the first time at The Underworld in Camden. Its extensive airplay on Planet Rock is a testament to its appeal.

For those looking for a ballad, “Sticky Clubs” closes the album with a heartfelt shoutout to all the beloved rock clubs we’ve cherished over the years. It’s a fitting end to a high-energy record, showing a more introspective side of the band.

Other standout tracks include “DAMN!DAMN!DAMN!DAMN!,” “Going Down,” and “Loud and Clear,” each offering something unique while maintaining that unmistakable Hot Damn! charm. The album is cohesive yet varied, ensuring there’s never a dull moment.

If you’re familiar with The Hot Damn!, you know this album is going to be a killer, and you’d be right. Dancing On The Milky Way is a triumph, capturing the essence of their live performances and translating it beautifully into a studio recording.

Mark the date you can get your hands on this masterpiece in fun on the 27th of September.
