Kick Out the Jams: NOBRO’s Unforgettable Night at The Old Blue Last
NOBRO
Stepping into The Old Blue Last in Shoreditch, London, is like stepping into a slice of quintessential English pub culture. The downstairs area exudes the charm of a traditional pub, but venture upstairs, and you’re greeted with a spacious room designed for gigs. It was our first time at this venue, and it certainly left an impression.
On this particular night, the stage was set for NOBRO, a Canadian garage punk band hailing from Montreal, Quebec. They brought their punk prowess back to its roots in the UK, and the anticipation in the air was palpable.
As the band kicked off their set, the audience started off with a casual nod to the rhythm. However, it didn’t take long for the energy to build. About halfway through, the room transformed as a mosh pit erupted, capturing the essence of punk spirit. By the end of the night, the entire venue was a swirling mass of ecstatic, moshing fans.

NOBRO’s energy was nothing short of electrifying. Frontwoman Kathryn McCaughey commanded the stage with an intensity that was infectious. At one point, she took her performance to the next level, crowd surfing above the thrashing sea of fans. Her fearless presence was the embodiment of punk rebellion.
When the band concluded their set, they announced there would be no encore, stating they had no more songs left to play. Yet, the fervent audience wasn’t ready to let go. Chants of “one more song” filled the room until the band relented. What followed was an incredible rendition of the MC5 classic “Kick Out The Jams,” a fitting tribute to the punk greats who paved the way.
Overall, it was an amazing night that captured the raw, unfiltered energy of punk rock. If you ever get the chance to see NOBRO live, don’t hesitate—get your tickets and prepare for an unforgettable experience.
