Electric Pets Ride into the Wild West with “Out of Nowhere”: A Vintage Blend of Garage Rock and Spaghetti Western Vibes

Electric Pets, the Derby-based quartet fronted by the charismatic singer-songwriter Emma Buckley, are back with a new single that’s sure to transport listeners to the dusty plains of the Wild West. Titled “Out of Nowhere,” this latest release is a masterful fusion of vintage garage rock, surf, blues, 60s girl group pop, and the iconic “Wall of Sound” made famous by Motown.

Since bursting onto the UK music scene in 2022, Electric Pets have been making waves with their unique sound and energetic live performances. With a string of successful singles and EPs under their belt, including sold-out physical copies and over 100,000 plays on Spotify, the band has quickly become a favorite of BBC Introducing and Radio X’s John Kennedy.

“Out of Nowhere” is the band’s second release of the year, following their continued exploration of retro influences. Inspired by the twangy guitars and Tijuana brass of 60s Spaghetti Western soundtracks, composer Pete Darrington crafted a song that evokes the heat of the desert and the drama of gun-slinging cowboys. Emma Buckley’s poignant lyrics delve into the complexities of forbidden love, inviting listeners to ponder the depth of connection in the face of adversity.

The track’s instrumentation is haunting yet melodic, with Phil’s guitar licks perfectly capturing the spirit of the Old West. To complete the picture, the band enlisted session trumpet player Josh Short, whose brass adds a layer of authenticity to the cinematic sound.

In a statement about the song, Buckley reflects on its themes of surrender and vulnerability, asking whether a deep connection is enough when faced with circumstances beyond our control.
