Smiles, Surprises, and Rocking Anthems: The Dust Coda’s Night of Pure Rock ‘N’ Roll

BIZZARELY, discovering  bands via a Sheffield stair case and finally seeing them live has defiantly been worth the wait, as Rock ‘N’ Roll Paradise and Limbo Man, one of the finest songs I’ve heard in years, kicked started this fourteen song set.

Formed well over a decade ago, The Dust Coda have been steadily building a following as this well-attended crowd showed much love and respect to this talented London-based gang. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist John Drake, tubs man Scott Miller, bassist Tony Ho and guitar master Adam Mackie, eight songs were plucked from current album Loco Paradise. Many bands play only a few tunes from their latest offering so full credit for doing that. It was also nice to hear other songs from past albums too, namely the excellent Jimmy Two Times taken from previous effort Mojo Skyline.

As a live performance The Dust Coda do a good job as all four gel together nicely and put in effort and skill, though a few more smiles wouldn’t have gone amiss, and maybe a cover song would’ve  helped. Again, some bands do this well by choosing something different, plus it keeps the interest going.  With the set nearing completion the band ended high as current album opener Road To Hell closed the night. A word must also be added for support act Doomsday Outlaw who also did a sterling job and have been at it for many years now.

Even though they’ve experience behind them, The Dust Coda don’t possess a high profile, which they should have as they’ve recently supported Gun’s’ Roses in some huge shed. And from that show alone, received decent national press coverage too. For my money The Dust Coda tick many boxes. All they need now is some good fortune and lady luck to come riding by.
