Electrifying Indie Rock Night at the Rescue Rooms: The Hunna. Gig review.

The support acts, Band of Silver and Sick Joy, were a great introduction. Band of Silver’s Avery Silvernagel (Lead Vocals) and her brother Alex Silvernagel (Bassist) started the evening off and soon got the crowd warmed up. Next up was Sick Joy, who were excellent, and with just two band members (Drew Michael on drums and frontman Sam Rattray), they filled the venue with some great rock sounds. This band formed in Newcastle in 2016 and is now based in Brighton.

Originating from Watford, this indie rock band was formed in 2015. The band has had hits in the USA, and their album “Dare” reached number 12 in the UK under the label High Time, with their first album, “100,” hitting number 13 in 2016.

The performance at the Rescue Rooms was sold out, and I can see why. The band’s performance was electric, with all band members getting into the Halloween spirit and all dressed in skeleton jumpsuits. The lead singer commanded the stage, and his energetic performance soon got the crowd involved; the atmosphere was absolutely buzzing. Bass player Junate Angin and lead guitarist Dan Dorney were just as entertaining, and drummer Jack Metcalfe was superb. The Rescue Rooms is a great venue, and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. I just wish that the stage lighting could be lifted a little; photographing the bands was really tricky.
Their latest album (Album number 4) is simply named “The Hunna” and was released last year under the label LMW Records. It is now on my playlist and often played, along with the album “Dare.” My favorite songs personally are “Sick,” “Dare,” “Babe Can I Call You,” and “Flickin Your Hair.” Great band, and I’m glad to have had the opportunity to photograph them.
