An Unforgettable Night of Rock: Glenn Hughes and The Damn Truth Live at Rock City. Gig Review.

The Damn Truth

We kicked things off with The Damn Truth, and let me tell you, they are an absolutely incredible live act. I had the pleasure of catching their headlining show a few months ago at The Musician in Leicester, and I was completely blown away. Lee-la’s vocals are nothing short of perfection, whether you’re listening to a recording or witnessing her live performance. PY and Tom also dominate the stage, utilizing every inch of it. I distinctly remember thinking that these guys deserved a bigger stage, and here we are at Rock City, the ideal venue for this band, where they truly made the most of the opportunity. It’s safe to say that next time, they should definitely be the headliners here.

Their brand-new single “I Just Gotta Let You Know” is set to release on the 20th of this month, and after watching the trailer video, I simply can’t wait to hear it. You might already be familiar with this band from their airplay on Planet Rock, but if you’re not, I strongly recommend checking them out.

“Glenn Hughes: A Living Legend, A Rock Icon, A Performance You’ll Never Forget”

Glenn Hughes

What can I say about Glenn Hughes? He’s a legend in his and our lifetime, I last saw him fronting The Dead Daisies here at Rock City. For me, he was a significant improvement on his predecessor.

Glenn’s vocals are nothing short of effortless; he has honed his skills over many years. They say that it takes 10,000 hours to become world-class in any field, and Glenn has certainly put in that time and more.

Interspersed between songs, Glenn shared stories about the album. He explained that this marked its 50th anniversary, reminiscing that he was just 5 years old when he recorded it.

Throughout his career, he has left an indelible mark on the music world, having been part of iconic bands like Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and, more recently as mentioned above, The Dead Daisies. His soulful and versatile vocals have earned him the status of a true living legend.

Glenn didn’t waste a moment in captivating the audience. He powered through an electrifying setlist, which included timeless classics like “Stormbringer,” “Might Just Take Your Life,” the irresistibly groovy “Sail Away,” the emotionally charged “Mistreated,” “Gettin’ Tighter,” “You Keep On Moving,” and, of course, the iconic title track, “Burn.” Glenn’s musical brilliance and vocal prowess were on full display, leaving the audience in sheer amazement.

Glenn’s stage presence was nothing short of electric. He exuded the energy and charisma of a seasoned rock star half his age, all while maintaining a deep appreciation for the fans who had gathered to witness his performance.

The evening’s climax was marked by the anthemic “Highway Star.” preceded by an exhilarating rendition of the classic “Burn,”, It was a moment of pure euphoria, and it was hard to tell who was having more fun – the audience or Glenn and his exceptionally talented band. As the gig came to a close, the fans erupted into applause, expressing their deep appreciation for an extraordinary performance that will undoubtedly be etched in their memories for years to come. Glenn Hughes is undeniably a one-of-a-kind performer and a true icon in the world of rock music.
