DO NOTHING, HUMOUR AND OPUS KINK AT ROCK CITY – NOTTINGHAM

Rock City was the destination with my camera in hand on Saturday to capture the band “Do Nothing” and their two support acts “Humour” and “Opus Kink,” and it wasn’t a waisted journey. As always I did my research prior to the gig and if I’m honest I wasn’t sure that these 3 bands would be my cup of tea being an aging rock fan who grew up in the 70s. I’m very open with my taste in music though so went with an open mind and I wasn’t disappointed at all. All three bands were great live and well worth seeing.

Talented Scottish Punk that is Original, Interesting and Slightly mad. The evening started with the Band “Humour”, a Scottish Punk band based in the City of Glasgow. Fronted by Andreas Christodoulidis with his very unique style, dare I say slightly mad and almost sultry but interesting voice the songs were powerful and the act were great to photograph. At times his voice reminded me of Robert Smith of The Cure. Very much a Punk Band with all of the attitude and lyrics you would expect from a band of this Genre. The band were talented with some great Guitar rifts from Jack Lyall / Ross Patrizio, and strong beats from Drummer Ruairidh Smith and Bassist Lewis Doig.

Full of Attitude, Great Stage Presence and Talented Musicians. Opus Kink hail from Brighton and were formed in 2018. Another post-punk / Rock Indy band that is original, with superb stage presence and great musicianship.

The band consists of:

  • Lead Singer / Guitarist – Angus Rogers (Opus Kink)
  • Drummer – Fin Abbo (Opus Kink)
  • Bassist – Sam Abbo (Opus Kink)
  • Keyboard – Jazz Pope (Opus Kink)
  • Saxophonist – Jed Morgans
  • Trumpet – Jack Banjo Country

I loved the inclusion of a Saxophone and Trumpet, both played superbly. I thoroughly enjoyed this act and their Album My Eyes, Brother! Has made it onto my personal playlist. The Album was released in May and well worth listening to. I love the songs Dust, Piping Angels, and This Train. Talented Post-Punk / Rock Indy Band, Entertaining, Highly Recommended.

DO NOTHING

Head Line band “Do Nothing” were worth waiting for and were a band I thoroughly enjoyed photographing. Frontman Chris Bailey, dressed in his suit has a great voice and is a powerful and emotive singer, delivering the lyrics with a degree of “anger” that worked well on stage. Ive listened to this band a lot over the past few weeks so knew most of the tracks they performed. I enjoyed their song LeBron James from 2019 and their newly released single “The Needle”. Their new Album Snake Sideways is very good indeed and highly recommended with my personal favourite song being the opening track “Nerve”, and Moving Target are songs that I regularly play at the moment. A band that deserves their their Headline Status and one that I I recommend seeing live.

  • Lead Singer – Chris Bailey
  • Guitarist – Kasper Sandstrøm
  • Bassist – Charlie Howarth
  • Drummer – Andy Harrison
