Tenacious D Rocks Hellfest with Epic Comedy Rock Extravaganza! – Gig review.

Tenacious D, the dynamic comedic rock duo consisting of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, took the main stage at Hellfest stage by storm with a fun filled rock musical extravaganza, leaving the audience in awe, and craving for more.
As Jack Black and Kyle Gass emerged, guitars in hand, they were greeted by a deafening cheer. The duo wasted no time in launching into their opening number, “Kickapoo,” a thunderous anthem that set the tone for the evening. The stage presence of both performers was simply remarkable; their larger-than-life personalities shone through as they effortlessly commanded the audience’s attention.

Tenacious D’s ability to seamlessly blend rock music with comedic genius was on full display. They flawlessly transitioned from raucous headbangers like “Rize of the Fenix” and “Tribute” to hilarious interludes, where Black’s charismatic storytelling and Gass’s deadpan humour brought laughter to the crowd. Their chemistry on stage clearly displaying they were having as much fun as the audience in front of them.
One of the interludes sees the hazing of one of the roadies called Biff. He oversaw the stage effects. Jack blasts him about the lack of flames during the songs which Biff apologies for. Black continues about the expense of the pyrotechnics and his disappointment. Eventually Biff is asked to leave the stage and the punchline of the sketch is revealed as Jack shouts ‘Biffy Pyro everyone’ to the crowd.

A couple of recent releases made it to the set list, “Wicked Game” a Chris Isaak cover and “Video Games”. The latter was promoted by Black as the best country song at this year’s Hellfest and he is undoubtedly right. During the show Satan made an appearance in the form of a large inflatable and Mometal the dancing robot joined the band for “The Metal” song.

The musical prowess of Tenacious D was undeniable. The pinnacle of their skills came in the form of a child’s plastic toy the Sax-a-boom. Jack played the song which goes by the same name. As the song ends and not wanting to be out done Kyle appears on stage with a Max-a-boom a larger version of the instrument in Black hands. Outdoing Jack, Kyle performs a solo rendition of Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street”.

Black, with tongue in cheek, dedicated the last song to everyone whether they be gay or straight and closed the set with “Fuck Her Gently,” Tenacious D’s unwavering commitment to their craft, their infectious humour, and their genuine passion for music created an unforgettable Hellfest performance.
