The Quireboys Rock Hellfest with Their Iconic British Blues Rock Sound – Gig review

Friday lunchtime sees the Iconic British rock band, The Quireboys, gracing the main stage at this year’s Hellfest festival. As the first chords reverberate through the air, The Quireboys capture the attention of the substantial audience gathered in front of them with their blend of blues, rock, and soul.
Being early in the day The Quireboys have a limited time on stage. With a setlist that consists of only seven songs it is surprising to see that the band have not included “7 o’clock”, ”I Don’t Love You Anymore” and “Hey You” in the line-up. That said the current members of the band put on a stellar performance of the songs that they have chosen for today’s gig, and I’m pleased to say they are getting better each time I see them.

Songs included in the line-up are “I Love This Dirty Town”, “What Does It Matter” and a new song called “Lie To Me”. Each song is delivered with passion and precision, as the musicians showcased their talent with guitar solos and dazzling keyboard skills adding a touch of elegance to the performance.
Guy Griffin calls out to the crowd, “we’re playing some real rocker and rollers here” and went on to dedicate the song “Original Black Eyed Son” from the 2019 album Amazing Disgrace in memory of his brother Daniel. The song demonstrating the bands love of the blues rock sound. Ending on “This Is Rock ‘N’ Roll” saw the Hellfest crowd dancing and singing along as they rock out to the chorus of the song.

Having been a fan of The Quireboys from the beginning it is great to see the turmoil of ‘Spike’ being left behind and allowing the band to move on, to continue entertaining their fans with their blues rock sound. With the inclusion of the new song “Lie To Me“ in today’s line up hopefully means there will soon be the release of a new album.
