Party Like It’s 1959: Vintage Explosion Revives the Golden Era of Rock ‘n’ Roll
Let’s party like it’s 1959…..
Are you ready for a night of authentic Rock n Roll, Swing and Rhythm and Blues then the unashamedly retro, Vintage Explosion authentically recreate the look and sound of those iconic entertainers of the 50’s such as Louis Prima, Little Richard, Chubby Checker, Bill Haley and Fats Domino. Those legendary artists wrote songs designed to fill dance floors and that is also the aim of this fabulous band and they delivered in spades this evening in The Queens Hall, Edinburgh.
After a short but wonderful set by Baby Face and the Beltin’ Boys who I hope to see again as they delivered a fine 30 minutes of great songs and did the job a support band is meant to and had the crowd warmed up for The Vintage Explosion who took to the stage after a short interval.
It was truly a real delight for me to hear the songs I grew up with as my mum was a big 50’s music fan and always had a record spinning on her red/cream Dansette that would be given to me when I was 12 but by them my taste was punk rock…! Looking back, Elvis, Little Richard, Jerry lee Lewis were the punks of their time so not so different after all.
The Vintage Explosion will have you dancing into the night with a mix of Jive, Swing, Rock n Roll, Rhythm and Blues and Jazz as well as an array of classic 50’s hits that everyone will know and love and the band certainly had the crowd on their side and dancing within the first few bars of the opening song and kept them there with an incredible set of approx 30 stone cold classics delivered expertly and in a fun way….
You can tell at one glance that these guys love what they’re singing/playing and that folks is the magic ingredient as too many bands just go through the motions providing no emotion to get their audience grooving.
You’ll know the songs, they will bring back long lost memories, maybe a tear or two but I guarantee you’ll be smiling for a long time after the band leaves the stage and in my case singing a few bars of Solomon King’s ‘Cry To Me’ at the most inopportune moments, giving folks on the bus/street/shops the impression that I’ve lost the plot.
Check out their website for more info and if they are playing a venue near you then just go…..
Sir Rod Stewart recently discovered the band and said of William Hitchell “I have just discovered the best white soul singer I have ever heard”
