Fresh off of the release of their new single ‘Alpha Zulu,’ I was blessed with catching Phoenix and was taken aback at how incredible their live performance is. I’d listen to their music for years, but never really had the chance to see them in real life. Phoenix is a French Sextet from Versailles consisting of Thomas Mars (vocals), Deck d’Arcy (keyboards/bass/backing vocals), Robin Coudert (Keybords), Christian Mazzalai (guitar/backing vocals), Laurent Brancowitz (keyboards/guitar/backing vocals), with drummer, Thomas Hedlund, rounding things out.

Phoenix has taken being back in action very seriously so far with a spectacular live tour and their most recent release of yet another new single titled ‘Tonight’ featuring Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend. My eyes and ears were treated to a highly whimsical delight while absolutely having my world rocked with deeply satisfying riffs & spectacular vocals. The performance was well polished, but still got you to let loose and dance and sing along. As I looked around and took the crowd in, I could see that the show was even a good time for those who weren’t tenured fans and didn’t know the words to the songs. I recall binge-listening to Phoenix’s 2009 album ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix’ and feeling lifted by the (at times) soothing tunes…but in person, Phoenix will definitely “rock your socks!”
To sum it all up, you are in for a real treat if you are able to catch Phoenix live. With all the recent action from this top tier band, I suggest giving their discography a whirl and grabbing some tickets for an ultra fun night out ASAP. For more on Phoenix, check out the links provided below.
