The Cadillac Three gig review – Rock City.

The Cadillac Three gig review - Rock City.

Tonight, we’re back at the church of Rock, Rock City Nottingham for a little Country. We are here to see the The Cadillac Three on their Hillbilly Hypnotized tour, it’s been a long time coming as this is one of the last covid postponed tours.

First up we have Lindsay Ell a Canadian country singer, this is the first time I’ve seen Lindsay and to simply put her in a country box is not doing her justice, she crosses into blues and rock to produce a big sound just with her guitar and a drummer. She was new to me but not to the audience, she soon had them singing along with her high-energy performance. Along with songs from her own catalogue she treated us to covers of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl” going into a slice of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. She finished her set with the song “Criminal” and threw in a few bars of Led Zep’s Kashmir for good measure.

Would I pay to see Lindsey again? 100%

Now it’s time for the main event The Cadillac Three. Their last album Tabasco and Sweet Tea saw them take a slight detour from their normal sound introducing funk into the mix, the results were fantastic, taking the established TC3 sound and taking it up a notch. The album gave them their second consecutive Group of the Year at the ACM Awards. This is the first time we will get to hear songs from the new album live.

For this tour TC3 has arranged preshow meet-up bars in each city, tonight’s is at Rescue Rooms, next to Rock City. We did try and get in but it was packed solid, the rumor was the band were going to pop in for a beer.

Jaren Johnston said:
“We’ve been waiting for some years now to be able to come back & play in the UK & couldn’t be more excited to finally be headed over in a couple weeks! The energy is going to be so special. The UK has always felt like home to us & we’ve missed it a lot. To celebrate the tour we’ve added special “Bar Round Here” meetups in each city so fans can have a place to pre-game before the concerts together”.

This is a sold-out show and the place is cooking, the air con can’t cope with this many people. They kicked off the set with the now classic Peace Love & Dixie and the crowd instantly responded, this was one of those gigs where the audience knows every song and can’t wait to sing along. Jaren reminded us that it had been 3 years since they last played Rock City and how they had used the covid downtime to write two albums. They played a crowd-pleasing set of 22 songs; a highlight was Lindsey Ell joining them on stage to perform a few new songs including Tabasco & Sweet Tea. They passed on the fake encore and ended the show with The South, I’m Southern. All in all, it a perfect night of high-octane Southern Rock, I for one will defiantly back for more.
