My Chemical Romance gig review – Stadium MK Milton Keynes.

Last night I finally got to watch My Chemical Romance for the first time at a gig that was originally planned for for 2020. The venue was stadium MK , which is a football stadium in Milton Keynes. The stage was built at one end of the pitch and the grass was covered over.

There was plenty of facilities available, including, to my delight pizza. First onto the stage was Charlotte Sands. A singer from the United States. She was followed by Starcrawler, a band from LA fronted by Arrow de Wilde.

The last support was from Placebo. But I want to tell you about My Chemical Romance. I wondered how the band would be dressed today. So many fans today were really making an efforts with their outfits and I noted a large amount of black parade jackets and even a few danger days outfits. Earlier in the week Gerard Way wore a white suit covered in fake blood, so I was intrigued to see what today would bring.

Mikey wore a shirt with ‘Mikey fucking way’ on, making me immediately need to own one. Frank wore a yellow shirt with piss written on and Gerard had vinegar written across his grey shirt. Ray was cooly dressed in black. I was curious as to the setlist for the evening as it has been different every night so far.

I wondered if I would finally get to hear my favourite songs live. They came to the stage and powered straight into The Foundations of Decay, which was met with cheers and what felt like the entire stadium singing along. Gerard took time to chat with the audience between songs, telling us stories and checking everyone was ok and on several occasions getting help into the crowd.

He asked everyone to stop and take a breath, slip on our yoga pants and take a step back. The entire crowd took a step back in unison, something Gerard did maybe 4 times. I’ve never witnessed someone take quite as much care as Mr Way did and good for him. He reminded us to be present and not to give everything of ourselves to the interweb and to take time to enjoy the life that is going on around us.

I was pleased to hear my chemical romance play Foundations of Decay. A new song that was only dropped last week, but that did not stop a huge cheer as it started and people singing along. I was happy to hear Mama live and Gerard even did the weird old lady voice, which, I for one, loved. Gerard told us that there was a song they hadn’t played for some time as it was too hard for them to play and it hasn’t been played live for 10 years. Then they sang cancer. It was dark, around 1030pm, all the lights were down, the sky was black and the crowd held up their camera torches like thousands of stars.

It was quite a sight for such a touching song, which everyone joined in with. Everyone sang along and it was a beautiful moment. Nearing the end of the evening I wondered what song they would finish with. Of course it had to be I’m not okay. The crowd were delighted and sang every word. What an end to an absolutely incredible night.
