Tonight I got a chance to sit down for a chat with Lzi of up and coming UK Rock band, The Hotdamn! You’ll have to excuse me for being a little under the weather in this edition (haha you can even hear my voice crack), but Lzi was a massive joy to talk to. Is it any wonder? Judging by their live shows that my UK partner Andy has caught, combined with their upbeat catchy rock tunes, and tie dye merch, they seem to know how to turn everything into a party.
The Hot Damn! consists of Gill Montgomery (ex-The Amorettes), Josie O’Toole (ex-Tequila Mockingbyrd), Laurie Buchanan (Aaron Buchanan and the Cult Classics) and Lzi Hayes (New Device/Sophie Lloyd band). One of the things that was so incredible about our conversation was the fact that Lzi covered musical inspiration from Nirvana, The Spice Girls, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, and Alaska 5000. Having a love for heavy music & unique pop is definitely something relatable.
Interestingly, the music style & vibe of this badass quartet seems to walk along the lines of hot pink Rock ‘N’ Roll with confetti & brass knuckles. Fresh off of a tour with The Dust Coda, this fabulous foursome has recently released a new single “I Didn’t Like You Anyway” and in this interview we chat about its process & soon to be released music video.
Self-described as a, “touring bachelorette party,” The Hot Damn seems to have earned the rights to the exclamation mark at the end of their name.
