Migrant Motel Interview – The Dynamic Duo: A Chat with Migrant Motel.
Recently a good friend of mine turned me on to a band that he shot a few recordings of at a tiny side stage during Lollapalooza here in Chicago. Now when this friend (I call him a friend but he’s really more of a Rock Kid/Rock ‘N’ Roller Dad), we’ll call him Papa Bones (@rad_dad_doogz), mentions a band…I know I’m in extremely good hands because he has incredible rock chops for honing in on up and coming bands that are experts at making good sounds. Long story short I jumped on coordinating a chat with the dynamic duo of Migrant Motel comprised of David Stewart Jr, the US-raised/Peruvian-born frontman (vocals, bass, guitar) and Chava from Mexico (drums, live loops). The band originally laid down temporary roots in Boston for 5 years before geographically parting ways for Mexico City & L.A. respectively. How these two coordinate such seamless tunes being worlds apart still boggles my mind, but shows that there’s definitely relevancy behind the fact that anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

I’m really bummed that I was remiss in recording this zoom from the jumping point of our chat “pregame,” not solely just for the fact that Chava mentioned that my hair made me look like a super hero (thank you, you rock Chava) but also for the fact that he held up a hat from another band that I love (Bones UK) that Papa Bones had gifted to him. Once David jumped on, we were off and running down an incredible path where we touched base on the importance of foundations of music & how the tides are changing with falling away from the movie & MTV age, to the social media age, & possibly yet to be discovered cornerstone foundations of music for younger generations.

We also touched base on our shared love of the movie Jurassic Park, & when we weren’t on giddy chat tangents, we covered the band’s current projects, steamy inspirations for Migrant Motel’s killer sound, & what the future holds for the band at large. Mainly, it truly felt like our time together absolutely flew by because it weirdly kind of felt like we knew each other for years. But enough of my rambling, you can discover exactly what I mean & even more about Migrant Motel through our chat & also at the links lined up below.
