Issue 1 – An Interview with The Middlenight Men.
Introducing The Middlenight Men. If you like The Wildhearts, ELO or melodic rock in general you are going to love The Middlenight Men. Throw in some amazing videos and you have band that you know are going to be an amazing live act. This band is a sort of supper group made up of musician’s that have been making other bands sound great for many years.
We had to find out more, so we contacted them for an interview. Now it’s time to meet your new favourite band The Middlenight Men.
My name is Andy from Rock News, thanks for taking the time out to answer a few questions with us today! We are really looking forward to letting people know about The Middlenight Men.
1. First off, can you let our readers know who The Middlenight Men are?
The Middlenight Men are a group a musicians who I’ve spent the last years accumulating through wild parties and great friendships. They’re consistently at the top of my list when it comes to people I’d want to be in a band with and after 20 years on the session circuit I’ve decided to do it myself.
2. Where did the name The Middlenight Men come from and what does it mean?
It started out as a reference to a lyric to one of the darker songs on the album, Sleep. But then we realised it perfectly embodied what the band was originally thought to be. A community of musicians who would form this great TMM universe but who had equally valid own stories to tell which we’d encourage fans to follow. It just so happens that it looks like the band are going to be more consistent than I first thought as we all love the tunes so much!
3. What was the artist or band that made you think I want to be a Rock Star?
Easy, Wildhearts. The dirty guitars and 3 part harmonies were a recipe I wanted to, and would go on to emulate, throughout my musical career.
4. What was the best gig you have ever been to and why?
I mean, how do you answer a question like that? SO many. Ben Folds Five in Cambridge around 1999 was pretty amazing. Also Aerosmith’s toxic twin towers ball back around that time too. 3 colours red, Black Crowes, Kravits and Aerosmith. Just insane. Oh. And Stereophonics…
5. What plans do you have for this year after lockdown, can we expect a tour?
We’re in talks with various parties about this but there WILL be an album launch, eventually., Just keeo checking the facebook page. It’ll be released soon and we’ll have all the pyros we’re allowed.
6. If you could play any venue in the world, what would it be?
It’d have to be Wembley Stadium now I think. But the OLD Wembley. Those twin towers were so iconic through the 80s and 90s. But I do really like going back to the roots and playing tiny pubs where everyones on tables. But tbh, anywhere full with everyone smiling.
7. I think it’s fair to say for a new band your videos are incredible, who is the film maker in the band?
Ahh cheers. So I do them with my friend Joe. I never picked up a camera before locakdown and I edited BA Baby all on my own and things started to twig. Joes been editing quite a few years and we both bring our own things to the party. He co-directed and edited Heroine Heights and I was more the screenplay/creator; then on We All Need Help Before Tomorrow that was mostly me editing and us both directing again. It depends on the project and what we have on but I’m very lucky to have him in the TMM community. For me he’s as part of the band as any of the musicians. Heidi was also integral to the projects especially with props and make up. It was so important to have 3 people because it’s quite easy for 2 people to get exhausted at the same time mentally and physically but there was always one of us to keep us all going.
8. Our US correspondent Roctavia always likes to end an interview with a fun question and this one was made for you guys. If you could have any superpower what would it be?
Hmmm I reckon it would be no hangovers so we could party all night long and not have that horrible feeling when you can barely hold yourself together in soundcheck the next day!
